What is Thermo-Re-Write (TRW) ?
Thermo-Re-Write is a printing and erasing technology, where thermal
energy is applied onto a specific CLEARjet foil on the card to generate
& erase printings.
What is a TRW card ?
A TRW card is a conventional plastic card made of PVC or PET, which is
laminated with a CLEARjet TRW foil.
What is a CLEARjet foil and how is it applied onto
the card ?
The CLEARjet foil is a chemical based film, which reacts to heat. The
foil is laminated onto the card by heat and pressure (hot lamination
process) in course of the card production.
Cards made of which materials can be laminated
with CLEARjet foils ?
The CLEARjet foil can be laminated onto PVC as well as PET cards. Paper
tickets can be coated with a speical thermal layer, for one-time
printing.
Is it possible to use CLEARjet foil on smart
cards (chip, RF chip), cards with barcodes, and cards with magnetic
stripes ?
All types of cards can be laminated with the CLEARjet foil. The actual
size of the rewritable area on the card can be adapted according to the
specific requirements of the application.
How often can TRW cards be re-printed and erased
with the CLEARjet printer ?
TRW cards can be reprinted/erased up to 500 times.
Can TRW cards be pre-printed in colour ?
Yes, because the TRW foil is transparent, the cards can be pre-printed
in colour before lamination, without any loss of colour printing
quality.
How can I purchase the TRW foil ?
TRW foils are supplied from CLEARjet in role, in sheet or stripe format,
depending on the preferences of the customer.
For low quantities, CLEARjet provides self-adhesive TRW stickers for
only blue colour printing. The stickers are applied onto the cards
manually.
On request, CLEARjet can supply readily TRW laminated, and pre printed
cards, too.

How many cards can the CLEARjet printer print per hour ?
The CLEARjet CX-one prints and erases up to 150 cards per hour. The
processing speed depends on the data volume to be printed.
Can the CLEARjet printer print photos ?
Yes, the CLEARjet printer prints photos with resolutions up to
300x600dpi. For high quality rewritable photos CLEARjet offers an Active
Photo Software.
Does the CLEARjet printer print and erase cards without TRW foil ?
No, the CLEARjet printer prints / erases only cards with a TRW foil.
What is the maximum resolution of the CLEARjet printer ?
The maximum resolution of the CLEARjet CX-one with 300 dpi print head is
300x600 dpi.
How many colours can the CLEARjet printer print ?
The CLEARjet printer prints monochrome - either in black or in blue,
depending on the TRW foil on the card.
What are the consumables of the CLEARjet printer ?
There are no consumables needed for the printing process (No ink, no
ribbon).
The printhead and the erase role must be replaced after reaching the
livespans.
What are the expected lifespans of the consumables ?
The printing head reaches a lifespan of approx. 200.000 printing cycles.
The erase role´s durability amounts to 100.000 erase cycles and maximum
3.000 operating hours.
Does the printer need to be maintained regularily ?
After 1.000 printing cycles the print head needs to be cleaned by using
the CLEARjet cleaning card.
How do I know if the print head needs to be cleaned ?
The red LED of the CLEARjet printer shows up, and a signal tone rings.
How are the cards fed into the CLEARjet printer ?
The cards can be fed into the printer either from the front or from the
back with card hoppers. The desktop version of the CLEARjet CX-one
printer is also available as a hopper version with a card hopper for 50
cards. For the OEM version of the CLEARjet printer, hoppers for 180
cards and 600 cards are available.
Is it possible to encode/read smart cards (chips, RF chips), cards
with magnetic stripes, and cards with barcodes with the CLEARjet printer
?
The CLEARjet printer can be equipped with various modules for contact or
contactless chip and magnet encoding/reading. These modules can be
integrated into the printer directly allowing erasing, reprinting and
encoding in one process.

Does the CLEARjet printer work under Windows Operating System ?
The CLEARjet printer is supplied together with drivers for Windows
95/98, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP
What is ACTIVE CX SDK ?
The CLEARjet Active CX SDK is a software development kit with compact
modules (controls) for communcation with the CLEARjet printer, chip
modules, RF chip modules and magnetic encoding modules. It allows you to
easily integrate the CLEARjet printer and modules into your application.
I have no Windows Operating System, can I use the printer ?
The printer can be used with any operating system. The printer can be
controlled via ESC sequences.
